In today's corporate world everyone is obsessed with 2 types of date : Project deadline date and Holidays. Among holidays, the holiest dates are the ones which fall on long weekend or the extended weekends where one or two days of casual leaves (yeah I know, so called sick leaves) brings the ultimate happiness. It was one of such occasion when I planned to sin myself with sick leave and get my first experience on the highways on a 4-wheel. I am a recent car learner and the machine at hand was my new shining Hyundai Creta VTVT. I had always dreamed of the day when I will be behind the wheels for a never ending highway. At the same time, I had to keep in my mind that my rookie driving skills won't help me on hilly terrain, so the only option left was a destination on flats. Being in Bangalore, I realized that a sea beach will be the best option if I have to avoid the hills and hence came the idea of Pondicherry. Now since it was a long weekend , the first arrangement that needed to be done was of hotel / resort. Once done it 15-20 days in advance, I had yet to decide on whether I will ride my bullet or the new Creta. My wife was not very comfortable with the idea of driving the car (as I already mentioned, I am still a rookie), so she insisted on riding the bullet. Now she has traveled thousands of miles on the bullet with me so this option was more on her comfort zone and so would be mine. But I had different plans in my mind, I wanted to conquer the fear of long drive and wanted to settle as a comfortable driver , fearless, and so I ditched the idea of 2 wheel. My positive opinion on my drive made my wife comfortable and so the plan for Pondicherry was chalked out. I serviced my car 3-4 days in advance , it was first service, just a checkup, all I needed was lots of confidence to make it attitude.
The D-Day:
-----------------------
WE have made a habit of leaving the city at the earliest possible time on the day of travel, if we are going on a road trip and both me and my wife agrees on it. This trip was no different and though we had the luxury of delaying it for a couple of hours, we started pretty early. Got up at 4:45 and by 5:30 am we were gliding on the outer ring road of Bangalore. Now all our previous trips were on bike and from Mumbai and so 5:30 am was a pretty early schedule as per Mumbai's standard. But we felt the traffic heat on Electronic city sky way of Bangalore when we arrived at the toll gate. This was the first toll gate to cross , ending Bangalore's city limit and was cramped up with travelers. By the time we crossed it , we had spent already an hour (6:35 am) and had covered just 33 km on the trip meter. Also I had not got the real feel of highway and the performance of my Creta. So after crossing the toll gate, the unending smooth highway invited me to test my driving skills , at the same time keeping me challenged with the traffic.
